A budding cricketer in his 20's, he managed quite a few innings for Bharat Sports Club.
It didn't stop there. In his 30's and 40's he was a regular participant in weekly games of tennis, badminton, volleyball and even squash. Our family picnics in Nairobi were always based around sports activities.
An avid photographer, being the first to invest in the most up-to-date technology....be it a camera, projector, video player or colour TV, and most recently an I-phone! A globetrotter, he had us flying around the world (literally), a music lover (Ghulam Ali to Mukesh) and an appreciation of nature (safaris to museums), he is a man of many talents!
Over the years after marriage, he took the difficult decision of relocating his mother and two younger siblings to the UK, in the hope of better prospects for them.
Finally, a decade later in 1982, he took the ultimate step to emigrate to the UK himself and settled in Leicester. He was ever grateful to be united with his entire family again and had the opportunity to spend the last few years of his mother's life by her side.
After various jobs and attempts at starting his own business, the final move to London was in 1986, settling in South Harrow, where he still resides today. He became a prominent figure within the Mandhata community and through this platform, despite being well over half a century old, he developed his passion for yet another sport, namely GOLF!

His brother Kishor and nephew Vishal were instrumental in him taking up the game. He takes great pride in being affiliated with the Mandhata Golf Society (MGS), be it as the most senior member!
Now, at the sprightly age of 80 and a doting grandfather, he is still in the prime of his life! Active as ever, it's a wonder where he gets his energy from. As his family, we may be a tad biased, but in our eyes Jivan Patel is a legend.....and our hero!
